Why this site exists
Finding the perfect recipe and discovering it is in grams, in Celsius or for a pan you don't own is one of the most frustrating things in the kitchen. Sumac solves it in seconds: it scales any recipe to the pan you have, to the number of people eating and to the measurements you use at home.
It's free, works on your phone and needs no sign-up. It is supported by advertising.
What you can do
- Scale recipes to another pan, round, square or rectangular, by comparing the area of both.
- Adjust by servings: from 4 to 6 people, or from 8 to 2.
- Convert cups to grams by ingredient, because a cup of flour doesn't weigh the same as a cup of sugar.
- Convert units of volume, weight and count, and oven temperatures in °F, °C and gas mark.
- Share the scaled recipe by WhatsApp, Telegram or email.
How we calculate
We use standard kitchen measures: the US cup of 236.6 ml, the tablespoon of 15 ml and the teaspoon of 5 ml. Weights per cup are average reference values for ingredients spooned in and leveled, not packed. For pans we compare the area of the base, which is what keeps the batter at the same depth.
These are approximate values for home cooking. For very precise baking, a kitchen scale is always your best friend.
