Turn grams into cups
Many European and online recipes list ingredients in grams. Without a scale, convert them to cups or spoons by ingredient: 100 g of flour is about ¾ cup, but 100 g of sugar is only ½ cup.
Household reference measures
| Container | Approximate capacity | Note |
|---|---|---|

| Coffee mug | ≈ 10–12 fl oz | Not a recipe «cup» (8 fl oz) |
| Single-serve yogurt cup | 5.3–6 oz (150–170 g) | Check the label |
| Soup spoon | ≈ 1 tablespoon | Filled and leveled |
| Small coffee spoon | ≈ 1 teaspoon | Filled and leveled |
| Stick of butter | ½ cup · 8 tbsp | Tablespoons are marked on the wrapper |
Tips by ingredient
- Flour: fluff it in the bag, spoon it into the cup and level with a knife. Never pack it or scoop with the cup.
- White sugar: fill the cup and level. Brown sugar: press it down firmly.
- Butter: use the tablespoon marks on the wrapper. One stick is 113 g.
- Liquids: use a clear measuring jug and read it at eye level.
- Sticky things like peanut butter or honey: spray the cup with oil first.
